Tasmania, as all of Australia, is rich in flora and fauna. Its biodiversity is such, that you can expect to find rare specimens that can't be found anywhere else. If you're a ecology enthusiast, and are planning on visiting Tasmania, keep your eyes wide open to see if you can spot any of these incredible creatures during your visit.

Needless to say, there are a myriad other plants and animals to see in Tasmania, but these are some of the most popular ones.

The Fauna of Tasmania

Platypus

This strange looking but awesome mammal with the bill of a duck and the tail of a beaver, is endemic to the Eastern region of Australia, where Tasmania is located. See it swimming around and being its weird self during your visit to the island.

Little Penguin

Guess what? You don't have to be cold to spot a penguin! A smaller species of Penguin, aptly named Little Penguin, can be found in Tasmania, wobbling from one place to another. They're exceptional divers and singers. Lucky you if you can spot one!

The Tasmanian Devil

Of course, this short list couldn't miss the king of the island: the Tasmanian Devil. This feisty little creature is loud and devilish, which is why it's not advised that you pet it if you happen upon one. It can only be found in the wild on the island, and it's a key player in the place's ecosystem.
