Are you a zoologist or biologist at heart? Are you a fan of Charles Darwin? Do you love seeing animals thrive in their natural habitat? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, then the Galápagos Islands are a must-see for you.

The Galápagos Islands are a group of volcanic islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, close to the country of Ecuador. Their importance stems from them being the second largest and most diverse marine reserve in the world (which granted them status as a World Heritage Site), and the fact that they were the inspiration for Charles Darwin's theory.

For these reasons, it's easy to imagine that the Galápagos Islands are filled with endemic species. In this post, Brit Olom Tours, Inc. in Miami, FL will share a list of the animals you could see during a cruise through the Galápagos Islands (keep in mind that there are a lot more than those mentioned here).

Animals Found at the Galápagos Islands

Galápagos Penguins

Have you wanted to see penguins in their natural habitat but didn't want to freeze in the South Pole? Then, you're in luck. The Galápagos are the only penguin species north of the equator.

Galápagos Sea Lion

These playful, cute animals are a joy to watch. You will likely find them sunbathing on the shore. They're also curious, inquisitive, and social, which means they aren't shy around humans.

Marine Iguana

This unique creature and its out-of-the-ordinary appearance prompted Charles Darwin to describe them as the "most disturbing, clumsy lizards," and even referred to them as "imps of darkness." See for yourself:

Galápagos Finches

This little guy (which is actually a group of 18 different species) played a key role in Charles Darwin's theory, which is why they're also known as Darwin's finches.

Giant Tortoise

Finally, probably the most famous inhabitant of the Galápagos Islands: the giant tortoise. It is the largest species of tortoise in the world and can live up to 100 years!
