Alaska has so many things to see and enjoy. Most of them involve natural adventures. The thing is that nature goes at its own rhythm and may not agree with your traveling plans. For this reason, it's a good idea to look at what you want to do on your Alaskan trip and figure out when to visit. For help in this matter, Brit Olom Tours, Inc. in Miami, FL, has the following post.

Keep in mind that these are suggestions, and you may be able to do the activities mentioned here at other times.

Best Times to Visit Alaska

For Whale Watching

If you're traveling to Alaska mainly to see humpback whales and orcas in action, your best bet is to do it from May through September, when their migration brings them to the Alaskan seas.

For Aurora Borealis

There's no certainty about when you'll see Aurora Borealis (in Alaska or anywhere for that matter). However, you're more likely to spot the Northern Lights from August to April.

For Glaciers

Glaciers call Alaska their home, which is why you'll see them all year round. Still, if you want to be amazed by these walls as you kayak or hike, go from May-Sept, when there isn't as much ice.

For Sighting Wildlife

Just like you, animals and plants get cold. For this reason, you may not see as much wildlife during the late fall and winter months. As the temperatures rise and spring starts (March-June), you'll spot more of Alaska's natural gifts.

For Winter Activities

This should come as no surprise. If you want to ski, snowboard, cross-country ski, snowshoe, ice skate, or go on a dog sled, you'll have to visit when the wind is cold. This means traveling from February to March when the temperatures are low but not too low.

For General Tourism

Lastly, if you want a general experience of Alaska, June, July, and August are probably the best months to do it. The cold has subsided, and you can enjoy your time without freezing. You can go hiking, kayaking, and more during this time of the year.
