What to Do During Your Stay in Tokyo

Tokyo can be overwhelming for those who aren’t used to living in a big city. With that being said, taking the proper steps to plan your trip can make it a huge success. Before you take off to Tokyo, use these tips to plan your itinerary.

Where to Eat

Tokyo has a ton of food options that are all delicious and worth experiencing. There are, however, some truly unique places you must see. To start, head over to the Tsukiji Fish Market, the largest wholesale fish market in the world. You may have to get there early to experience it at its best, but the fresh sushi is worth getting up early for. If you’re looking for some great ramen, head over to the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum. This place is home to a number of ramen restaurants and is a recreation of 1950’s Japan. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the ramen as well as the performances and the open-air courtyard.

Where to Shop

There are plenty of places to shop in Japan, but your ideal shopping spot will depend on what you’re looking for. If you’re interested in designer boutiques, head over to the tree-lined streets of Omotesando. Nearby you will find the Harajuku neighborhood, home to Japan’s unique Harajuku and kawaii styles. This is a great place to pick up cute socks, accessories, and spend some time people watching. If electronics are more your style, you can’t leave Japan without stopping by the Akihabara neighborhood, known for its many electronics shops.

Take a Break from the City

If Shibuya Crossing has got you feeling overwhelmed, take a break from the city’s chaos in one of its many parks. Yoyogi Park is a great place to take a stroll and breathe in some fresh air. While you are there, make your way to Meiji Shrine where you can purchase an Ema card. Visitors write their hopes and wishes on these cards and then hang them on the shrine. If you’re looking to spend some time under the cherry blossoms, you can’t miss Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
