Get to Know the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic may not be the most well-known country in Europe, but it has just as many sights and experiences to offer as some of its neighbouring countries. Explore this country's ancient streets and get lost in its beauty.

Architectural Landmarks

The capital city of the Czech Republic has the power to transport you back in time through its wide array of architectural styles and landmarks. One must-see landmark is the Prague Castle, the largest ancient castle in Europe. You may need a couple of hours to get through it all because of just how much it has to offer. Be sure to take a walk on the Charles Bridge, a 520-meter long bridge that offers impressive views of the River Vltava. This bridge is full of historical statues, some of which are at the center of some local superstitions. Other points of interest include the local zoo, the National Gallery, the Jewish quarter, and the Lennon Wall.

What to Eat

Czech cuisine may not be the most well-known in the world, but that doesn't mean this country doesn't have delicious dishes. Local cuisine tends to be quite hearty and includes items such as goulash with dumplings, schnitzel, a variety of sausages, and appetizing open-face sandwiches. If you're fond of a good beer or two, you'll be happy to learn that the Czech Republic has plenty of beers for you to try. Check out Pivovarsky Klub in Prague, a restaurant and beer boutique that offers 240 types of bottled beer as well as six more on tap. If sweets are what you're looking for, you'll find plenty of bakeries that offer local treats, such as gingerbread and other traditional cookies. You can't leave Prague without visiting Cafe Louvre, a 100-year-old cafe that includes Franz Kafka and Albert Einstein on its list frequent of visitors.

Where to Have Fun

Having fun in Prague is easy, but if you're looking for something modern head over to New Town, the youngest quarter in the city. At its center lies Wenceslas Square, one of the two biggest city squares in the city. Here you can find trendy cafes, restaurants, boutiques, and bars. While these can be found in other parts of the city, New Town is known for its more upscale and trendy environment.
