Turkey is a country with an ancient past and varied and historic landscape.  For years, it was a melting pot of different cultures and its relevance in world history is reflected in its landmarks and city centers.

At Brit Olom Tours in Miami, we are always happy to share our professional insights with you about exotic places around the world. That’s why we created this post, with three things you can’t miss the next time you are in Istanbul.

Sultan Ahmed Mosque

Also known as the Blue Mosque, because of the blue tiles in its interior. It was named after the sultan who order its construction in 1609. Remember that it’s considered a holy place, so everyone is asked to remove their shoes before entering. Women are also requested to cover their head before entering.

Hagia Sophia

This is a magnificent example of Byzantine architecture and its name could be translated from the Greek as “Holy Wisdom”. This place was originally a church and later converted into a mosque. Today it is a museum and a symbol of the city.

Grand Bazaar

This bazaar is over 500 years old and one of the largest covered markets in the world. This is where locals do their shopping but you can also find great souvenirs. Just remember that due to it’s size, it’s easy to get lost!

Istanbul is surrounded by beauty and history. Make sure you don’t miss any of these places the next time you are visiting this historic and magical city.
