What You'll See in Rotorua

Look at the photo above. It's weirdly hypnotic and exotic, right? So much so it almost seems as if it had been taken in a different planet. Fortunately for adventure-seekers everywhere, it was snapped on our own planet, on the North Island in New Zealand. It's a place called Rotorua. If you too were hypnotized by the steamy picture above, this post will give you a bit more details of what you can find in this otherworldly location.

Rotorua is a region in North Island known for its thermal springs and hot mud pools, that exist thanks to the volcanic activity of the area. There's Kuirau, a geothermal park that you can visit to witness some of the wonders of the world we live in for yourself and dip your feet in the public hot pools available there. This will give you a chance to relax like nothing else will.

It's not recommended that you spend time trying to relax in this natural phenomenon, however. Geysers are a stunning spectacle of steamy hot water being pressured out of the Earth and into the sky. Few places feature geysers, as they are a rare occurrence. Luckily, Rotorua has its very own geyser, Pohutu Geyser, which discharges around 20 times a day.

Not all revolves around volcanic activity in Rotorua. It also enjoys a diverse flora and fauna. Another popular activity in Rotorua is mountain biking through The Redwoods, which will give you a chance to explore the natural wonders of the area and get in a workout, too. You can also visit the region's waterfalls, lakes, and other breathtaking locations.

Last but not least, one of the gems of New Zealand, and something all visitors should experience is Maori culture. Rotorua is a great place to do that, as it is home of the Maoridom, where you get to tour a Maori village, learn about their traditions, and be fascinated by their cultural richness.
